It is not surprising that Pro Arts Jersey City first online exhibit, “afloat,” includes numerous works referencing COVID-19. For the show, the professional visual arts membership organization asked its members" to find some creativity and ideas that reflect upon these times, find ways to examine the impact on the world, country, environment, people and ourselves." The result is 41 entries, including five videos, curated by Kerry Kolenut. All the works were created in 2020 -- a time, the exhibit’s preface notes, that “has plunged us into what once seemed unimaginable, forever changing the way we think about ourselves, the world and how we occupy it. We have been forced to think, act and interact in new and different ways.” Not all the works, however, address coronavirus. The exhibit, in slideshow format, will remain posted on the Pro Arts’ web page through June. Read more
