“The Space Between” explores the relationship between female identity and the environment, evaluating women’s perceptions of place amidst a complex social climate through a myriad of perspectives. By compiling works of women artists from a variety of backgrounds, demographics, and authentic experiences, the exhibition allows audiences the opportunity to identify patterns between women’s circumstances and surroundings on both individual and collective levels. In an effort to build bridges between certain regions and locations, the exhibition focused on women artists currently living in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. WCA NYC encouraged submissions from a diverse female audience to enable underrepresented voices to participate whilst highlighting the inherent values that women hold concerning concepts of dwelling and place. “The Space Between” sought multiple interpretations on the theme, including two and three-dimensional works and audio-visual installations to create connections within an admixture of mediums. “The Space Between” is juried by Jeanne Brasile, Director of the Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey.
